The fine imposed on the 21-year-old for theft at Naivas Supermarket along Moi Avenue in Nairobi has been waived by former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko.

Chivondo was accused of stealing KSh 3,165 worth of goods from a large shopping mall, including 5 kilograms of grains, 5 liters of cooking oil, 2 kilograms of sugar, honey and tea leaves. Judge Wendy Micheni found Alvin guilty and sentenced him to a year in prison with a fine of KSh 100,000 in front of the Milimani Law Courts.

Chivondo was visited by Sonko this evening, April 13, and the fine was erased.
As an added bonus, Sonko promised the man a well-paying job and a shopping spree for a whole month.

“Because the majority of Kenyans live in poverty and struggle to provide a daily meal for their families, I chose to pay Alvin’s punishment. As part of my pledge, I’ll supply him with a one-month supply of food and offer him a job “.
