An earlier order from the Kenyan Communications Authority requiring citizens to register their SIM cards anew has been rescinded.

“The directive only applies to those who have unregistered sim cards,” said CA Director General Ezra Chiloba.”

Even though he had previously warned that Kenyans who did not register their sim cards anew would be fined Ksh300,000 or put in prison for six months, Chiloba and his team quickly reversed their position.

The re-registration of SIM Cards was set for April 15 by Chiloba.

Concerned citizens in Kenya voiced their displeasure after the Communications Authority (CA) threatened to deactivate their already-registered sim cards.
