Kenyans have shared mixed reactions as pictures of former Nyeri Governor, Wahome Gakuru’s grave emerge online. The pictures clearly showed an abandoned grave which received zero maintenance and one which had been forgotten. It is common in Kenya that, when a prominent person dies, their grave is well maintained for the longest time possible. Some Kenyans have expressed their disappointment over the issue while others think abandoning the dead bears no weight in the living human’s life.
Below are some of the images from the graveside, shared by a Twitter user, Madoka Kibet.
What Kenyans are saying
Andrew Ayayo@AndrewAyayo says: Ecclesiastes 9:5 For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing, and they have no more reward, for the memory of them is forgotten.
Peter Mwaura@petercyano says: Gikuyu hatunanga hio hype ya mazishi. We’ve not been into making modern graves. Just that.
David Ochieng@vydez says: Why? So many Kenyans die everyday.. some because of poor leadership.. unless he was an exceptionally good governor, I can say he was well compensated for his service by the salaries most of us can only dream of, power, connections.. May his soul rest in peace.
Joe@Joenyayo says: Death is cruel. Sad for the family. May God help them. But he was working like millions of Kenyans . Taxpayer’s money should never be used for completion of his house or making a golden grave ( As if it will help)
